Things We Love: American Queen TJD

With empowering and attention-grabbing messages like “Queen,” “Female Artist,” and “Art Whore,” American Queen TJD’s line of snapbacks are far from your ordinary hat.

Inspired by everyone from Basquiat to Picasso, TJD, who creates under the pseudonym of American Queen TJD, strives to make quality art with a meaning that evokes thought and feeling.  She considers herself to be an “abstract expressionist artist,” and draws inspiration first and foremost from her own life feelings and experiences.

Her “Female Artist” hat is an especially important piece in her collection. “When people talk about art, without even having to think, they name male artists – Picasso, Warhol, etc. Female artists are not talked about as much as male artists,” she explains.

While she does pay homage to the aforementioned male artists, she also enjoys the work of female artists like Frida Kahlo and Georgia O’Keefe: “I like Frida because she was bold enough to paint herself in all her paintings,” she says. “Because female painters were not as mainstream, I feel like her doing that was a message to the people that represented ‘you will remember me.’”

This is really my introduction to TJD. Her art is unpredictable. What’s so great about it is that you look at it and pull from it somethg relative to you, so everyone can/will see something different. And she has respect for female artists. Kahlo is/was a pioneer and honestly my favorite. This hat is awesome and I need it in my life lol. On a serious note, I will keep my eye out for more of TJD’s work. It’s extremely dope.

What I love about TJD is the unique style & colors. I love vibrant colorful stuff, so her art is definitely appealing to my eye. I love that she is all for women’s rights & supports women artists. Much respect & love. TJD is swagggin’ 🙂 I also followed you guys on Twitter. (My name Twitter is @LipglossSexTats) xoxox
