Queers & Ice Skating: The Cure for Your Cabin Fever

WINTERPRIDELOGO

Word about a possible Philly Winter Pride event has been buzzing for some time, and it’s now confirmed: “Philly Pride Presents” Executive Director Fanny Price has announced the first ever Winter Pride will take place on Friday, February 22 from 6-8 p.m., at the Blue Cross RiverRink at Penn’s Landing.

With Equality Forum, Philly Black Pride, and Philly Pride all occurring in May/June and Outfest in October, there is a lull between LGBTQ events during the cold winter months. Ice skating with hundreds of fellow queers sounds like the perfect solution for cabin fever. So lesbians, get ready to lace up those ice skates!

In a quote that Price gave to the PGN, who first reported the story, she states, “You can be yourself and not worry about others making negative remarks. Partners can hold hands while ice skating. Our LGBT families will be able to skate together without the children hearing any negativity about their families.”

Tickets for the event are $20.00, which includes skate rentals. Any non-profit who wishes to sell tickets can keep $10 per ticket if they sell at least a dozen tickets. Shuttle buses will run back and forth between the rink and the gayborhood. And if you’re a female impersonator who can ice skate, Price wants to hear from you to possibly kick off the event. Visit www.phillypride.org to learn more and to contact Price for more information about becoming a sponsor, or if you are an organization interested in selling tickets.
