Lauren, 27, is a Project Manager at Drexel University; Christina, 28, is the CEO of thirty6five, a marketing agency for organizational consulting (and a contributing writer to Phillesbian.com).

Lauren and Christina met in 2005 at their alma mater, Houston University.

“I interviewed her to become an ambassador,” recalls Christina. “I still remember seeing her walk into the room. Her hair was in a wispy updo, she was wearing these khaki business pants and a sleeveless floral top. I couldn’t take my eyes off her.”

“I don’t remember meeting her at my Ambassador interview, but I do remember seeing her at our first Ambassador meeting,” says Lauren. “I saw this pretty, curvy, Latin girl flitting around the room, wearing a long white peasant skirt, glasses, and all this beautiful curly hair coming out of her head. I instantly had a crush on her and I knew I wanted to be her friend. We hung out that weekend and immediately became best friends. We’ve been inseparable since.”

They both identified as straight at UH, though both had previous relationships with women.

“Upon graduation, I was hired by CBS Television Stations and had been living in Philadelphia for a year,” says Christina. “She had already visited a couple of times, but for her graduation present, Lauren asked to spend a month with me in Philadelphia. That summer, I admitted to her that I was in love with her even though I knew she wasn’t ready to say it back. I couldn’t keep it to myself anymore. I’d moved 1,300 miles away from her and had dated other people, but I was still hopelessly in love. When she had to return to Texas, she called me to say she couldn’t be without me anymore. She would be moving to Philadelphia by her birthday in September. The day she arrived in Philly to be with me she told me she loved me. That was the day my life started.”

The pair got engaged on their fifth anniversary in September.

“We had planned on taking pictures for our anniversary anyway, so it was easy to propose at the end of the photo shoot. I’m a really bad liar so I was nervous because the omission of details from previous weeks was making me feel awful!,” says Christina.

“I was in complete shock. I had no idea she was going to propose. I even got mad when she pulled out the ring, because we said we weren’t getting each other anything for our anniversary,” says Lauren. “After I got over my initial shock, I was able to appreciate the situation. It was the perfect proposal. It was everything I ever wanted. It was outdoors, very private, just us. And it was perfect having our friend Tara, a talented photographer, capture the moment. She was great.”

The wedding will be a destination wedding a few years from now with family only, but no date is set in stone yet.

Congrats Christina & Lauren!
