Phillesbian.com is always seeking highly motivated, self-driven interns.
Responsibilities will include research and writing/editing weekly posts, finding and adding events to our events calendar, fact-checking, some sales outreach, possible event coverage, and other miscellaneous things that may come up.
This is an unpaid internship, as we are independently run on an extremely limited budget. However, we do promise you that you’ll build a great portfolio of published work, learn about the world of online media, and get to meet and interact with some awesome folks in Philly’s LGBT community. Plus, we’ll throw in some Phillesbian swag and a sweet recommendation when your internship is over.
You love to write (ideally are a Communications/Journalism major), and are passionate about LGBTQ issues, especially issues relating to lesbian/queer women in Philly. This also implies you know the difference between their, they’re, and there, understand sentence structure, have heard of and/or love the oxford comma, etc.
You’re internet-savvy with good research skills. You love Google and are quick at searching and more importantly, vetting information, and knowing which sources are credible and which are not. This implies you have Internet access and a computer, or can be somewhere that has Internet access and a computer for roughly 10 hours per week.
You’re independent, and able to work with little supervision. We don’t have an office (perhaps someday?), so you’d be working from your dorm or your apartment or your school library or wherever you do your best work.
You adhere to deadlines. You answer emails in a timely fashion.
You have your own unique writing style. You’re not afraid to be edgy and humorous, although you know when it’s appropriate to do so in a piece, and when it’s not.
Bonus: you have some knowledge of WordPress and basic html. Double bonus: you have some basic Photoshop knowledge, or other skills like photography, web-coding, videography, etc.
If this sounds like you, send us an email telling us about yourself – things like your name, year in school, what school you go to, and more importantly, why do you want to intern for us? Also let us know your availability, your career goals, etc. Attach your resume as a PDF (if you don’t know how to PDF your resume, this may not be the right internship for you), and also either attach or send us a link to three writing samples. Email Phillesbian@gmail.com with the subject line: I want to be your Intern!
