New LGBT Wellness Practice Opens in Center City

Two years ago, Philadelphia native Kristina Furia opened a small private counseling practice called Philadelphia LGBTQ Counseling, to provide quality psychotherapy services to the LGBT community. And like any successful business owner, Furia began exploring ways to expand the practice.

“I always knew that eventually I would grow the practice into something larger but I didn’t know exactly how it would end up looking,” she says.

She began publicizing that she was looking for more therapists to bring on-board. Soon after, she was contacted by both a holistic health coach and a massage therapist. At first, she let them know she was only looking for psychotherapists. A week later, however, she reached back out to both individuals to discuss a new idea.

Thus was born Emerge Wellness – a one-stop shop at 15th and Walnut for LGBT individuals and their allies to receive services that encourage personal growth, healing, and wellness.

Furia will continue to operate Philadelphia LGBTQ Counseling as the psychotherapy/counseling arm of Emerge, but the practice also now offers acupuncture, therapeutic massage services, Reiki, holistic health coaching, herbology, trauma touch therapy, and more.

“Everyone is so busy these days; finding the time to nurture your physical and emotional life can be a challenge,” says Furia. “Emerge Wellness is a singular space where all of the services you might need to be well are available to you and provided by trusted and LGBT-embracing providers.”
