Stating Our Case for Support
Phillesbian.com officially launched in May of 2012 as a digital magazine offering lesbian/queer-identified women in Philadelphia a resource for arts & culture, features, news, health, events, & more.
Our hyperlocal focus has allowed us to feature lesbian-owned businesses in the area, break news relevant to the Philadelphia lesbian/queer community, announce engagements of local girl/girl couples, and do features on prominent “out” local queer/lesbian leaders in our community.
For instance, we were the first local outlet to report on the Delaware Valley Legacy Fund appointing their first female & youngest Exec. Dir in their history. We were also the first local media outlet to call attention to the Philadelphia Wax Museum’s anti-gay marriage stance.
“I donated to Phillesbian.com because it’s the only digital magazine dedicated to women who love women in the Philadelphia area. Not only do they strive to empower queer women, but they also portray that positive content in an eye catching platform. Queer women need this kind of visibility everywhere. Phillesbian.com supports women like me, and I support Phillesbian.com.” – Morgan
We’ve conducted interviews and profiled everyone from Hell’s Kitchen Season 10 winner Christina Wilson (a Philly chef) to out lesbian radio host & South Philly native Casey of Wired 96.5. We’ve done round-up pieces, Q&A’s, featured lesbian-owned businesses for a popular monthly section called “Things We Love“, and more. We also are the only blog in the area to partner with the Mazzoni Center to bring a monthly health column about issues affecting lesbian/queer identified women.
“Phillesbian creates a digital resource for queer women in Philadelphia—something that is often overlooked by other online media resources. I appreciate their dedication to empowering women in Philly. Our city is lucky to have this and I want to do anything I can to support it!” – Samantha
